Thursday, May 19th, 2022

COLLABORATE! 2022 Conference Registration is Open!McKonly & Asbury was excited to be back in person at our signature event, COLLABORATE! The annual conference took place Thursday, May 19, 2022 and featured former Pittsburgh Steeler, ESPN Analyst, and cancer survivor Merril Hoge, as well as noted economist Dr. Anirban Basu. The conference featured a variety of topics and speakers, including general sessions and breakout sessions that left attendees with information on what’s trending in the business community and how to apply these best practices to their business.

This year’s keynote was delivered by Merril Hoge, former NFL running back and the author of Find a Way: Three Words That Changed My Life. In 2003, Merril was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which he fought – and beat – using the same tenacity he demonstrated on the field. Merril’s empowering message provided attendees with strategies to “find a way” as they pursue their own goals. Attendees valued Merril’s insight and inspirational message.

New to the conference this year, was a featured speaker in none other than noted economist Anirban Basu, Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland with an office in Indonesia. Anirban provided an economic update entitled “No Time to Buy” during a general session. Attendees found this presentation to be extremely informative and relevant to today’s economic climate.

Conference attendees had the opportunity to listen to dynamic general sessions focused on current issues including mergers and acquisitions, in which Dan Fitzpatrick, President of Citizen’s Bank Mid-Atlantic Region reviewed activity in 2021 as well as provided an outlook for 2022 with special emphasis on middle-market companies. A secondary general session included Renee Lieux, Chair of Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Group and Abbegael Giunta, attorney in the Labor and Employment and Public Finance & Government Relations Groups from McNees reviewing recent developments in all things COVID as well as benefit law changes with respect to retirement plan investment choices.

The conference included top-of-mind breakout sessions focused on a variety of areas including tax updates, U.S. trust laws, cybersecurity for nonprofit organizations as well as a session on EOS implementation. Afternoon breakouts continued with early midterm predications and the impact on business, details on ASC842 leasing standards, managing employee benefit plans, and building leadership skills to attract and keep great people.

The conference included breakfast, lunch and a reception with a variety of networking opportunities. Continuing professional education hours (6.5) and continuing legal education credits (5.5) were offered. Thank you once again to this year’s COLLABORATE! 2022 Sponsors whose support is critical to the success of this event.
